Harvard Provost Steven Hyman opened the meeting.
Sidney Verba, Carl H. Pforzheimer University Professor and Director of the University Library provided a Harvard University Library update.

The Challenge of Collection in a Complex World:
From Bosnia to Borneo, across the Middle East, and beyond, Harvard librarians work within an intricate web of relationships to assure that international materials are available for research
Michael Hopper, Head of the Middle Eastern Division at Widener (HCL), and
Raymond Lum, Asian Bibliographer at Widener and Librarian for Western Languages at Harvard-Yenching (HCL), explored the complexities of international collecting for Harvard.
Andras Riedlmayer, the Fine Arts Library's bibliographer in Islamic art and architecture (HCL) spoke on rebuilding libraries and acquisitions in a war zone: Bosnia and Kosovo.
The Moderator was Dan Hazen, Librarian for Latin America, Spain and Portugal (HCL), and ARL Visiting Program Officer overseeing the Global Resources Program.
The panel was followed by a question and answer session.
Rachel Howarth, Interim Chair of the Librarians' Assembly Executive Commitee, closed the meeting.
