Minutes of the Benefits Committee meeting
Feburary 15, 2000
Absent: Elaine Fadden, Malcolm Hamilton
1. Our assignment from the last meeting was to gather any information we could find on benefits for Harvard librarians. Suz-Ann brought brochures from Outings and Innings and from the Harvard University Art Museums, but said that the Outings and Innings web site was the best comprehensive source for benefits information. We already link to their site from our web page.
2. We discussed whether or not it would be a good idea to approach the Harvard museums to see if they would be interested in giving guided tours to staff a couple of times a year as a way of promoting their collections. Since this sort of activity might be more appropriate for the Communications and Orientation Committee, Emily said she would talk to members of that committee and get their reactions.
3. Enith brought some miscellaneous benefits information to the table, including the following: TPC (Technology Products Center) discounts for staff; auto and homeowner's insurance discounts which can be paid for through payroll deduction; free subscription to the Harvard Health Letter for staff who've worked at Harvard for fifteen years; free or very inexpensive classes at the Center for Training and Development (Resume Writing, Interviewing as an Internal Harvard Employee, Crossroads: Career Assessment at Mid-Life, and Introduction to Career Assessment, for example); and travel discounts through Harvard Travel.
4. For our spring presentation, we will sponsor a program by TIAA CREF on financial planning, as recommended by Malcolm. Jean Younger will give the presentation in the form of a brown bag lunch, probably during the last week of April.
Next meeting: March 21st at 9:00 a.m. at the Divinity School (Malcolm's office)
