Minutes of the Benefits Committee meeting

October 20, 1999



Present: Paula Ebbitt (notes), Greg Finneran, Amy Kautzman, Emily Moss, Suz-Ann Olofson, Ann Whiteside

 

Absent: Elaine Fadden, Malcolm Hamilton, Enith Vardaman

 

Business:

  1. The first item on the agenda was the web site. Who will be our new webmaster? Ann graciously agreed to take on this responsibility, despite technical problems with downloading our site into the Design School’s server. Ann is confident that once these technical problems have been resolved, she will be able to update our web site regularly.
  2. Next we discussed the organization of our re-orientation meetings, planned for November 3rd in the Lamont Forum Room, and committee members volunteered for the following tasks:

    Distribute HR’s handouts – Amy (will be stored in Lamont Forum Room’s closet.)

    Refreshments – Paula (Call Crimson Catering and bill to Malcolm. Coffee, tea, juice, croissants, bagels for 10 a.m.-12 noon meeting; coffee, tea, soft drinks, fruit, cheese for 1 p.m.-3 p.m. session. Find out latest day you can give them solid numbers of attendees.)

    Announcement and record of acceptances - Suz-Ann and Emily (Suz-Ann will send invitation to HCL Human Resources Liaison Group; Emily will send announcement to HULINFO and keep a record of acceptances.)

    Emily, Suz-Ann, and Paula will be at the Lamont Forum Room at 9:30 a.m. on November 3rd for the morning meeting. Amy, Ann, and Greg will cover the afternoon meeting, arriving at 12:30 p.m.

  3. In the reorientation meetings Paul Zizzo will cover the health and welfare CHOICES benefits, but Suz-Ann suggested that he also go over the pay stub, explaining what all the deductions mean.
  4. Looking ahead to the spring, we talked about a retirement program presented by Paul Zizzo or a financial planning and investment strategies workshop lead by Kyle Upton. Since we may not be able to do both, members were leaning towards the Kyle Upton presentation. Kyle could give library staff information on what kinds of things to ask and how to know what you’re getting from financial planners.
