Minutes of the Benefits
November 17, 2000
Present: Margaret Cianfarini (notes), Paula Ebbitt, Enith Vardaman
Absent: Jeffrey Cronin, Malcolm Hamilton, Michael Hopper, Emily Moss,
Suz-Ann Olofson, Kathy Rutter, Mallory Stark
Enith announced that Suz-Ann is resigning from the committee because she has a new job at Harvard. We discussed a replacement. Paula will look at the list of volunteers the Executive Committee of the Librarians’ Assembly received last spring; she will also check with Malcolm on the advisability of looking for someone from Personnel.
Follow-up on Reorientation Programs
Both sessions were well attended with about 25 participants on Monday and 35 on Tuesday. Paul Zizzo is very knowledgeable and attendees appeared to respond well to his presentation. There were numerous questions at both sessions and a number of people stayed to ask Paul individual questions after the formal sessions were over. Many of the general questions were about retirement issues. The only area Paul did not cover were the “smaller” perks of employment at Harvard such as museum admissions and the offerings of Outings & Innings.
We have tentatively scheduled a program on the new retirement plan for May 10. The idea is to provide a forum for additional information and questions after people having attended the presentations by the Benefits Office that will be scheduled in the spring.
We agreed we would like to pursue the possibility of offering a Will Power session. Paula will speak to Devorah Sperling at Outings & Innings about this.
Margaret reported that Beth Holmes, a former committee member, is leaving Harvard to take a position as head of cataloging at the University of Georgia Law Library.
The next meeting will be either January 12 or January 19; we would like
to avoid conflicting with ALA Mid-Winter. Enith and Paula will check
on date and advise committee members by email.
