Minutes of the Benefits Committee meeting
November 17, 1999
Present: Paula Ebbitt, Malcolm Hamilton, Emily Moss (Chair), Enith Vardaman (notes), Ann Whiteside
Absent: Elaine Fadden, Greg Finnegan, Beth Holmes, Amy Kautzman, Suz-Ann Olofson
1. Plans for a presentation in the spring were discussed. The proposed topic is how to use a financial planner and could include other financial planning questions people may have. Kyle Upton was suggested as the presenter. Malcolm will talk to Regina Perris to determine whether Kyle'scontract will allow her to make such a presentation. Malcolm suggested that if Kyle could not do it, perhaps she could propose someone.
2. The December presentations by Polly Price on the possible changes in the retirement plan for exempt staff were discussed. (At time of the meeting the presentations were thought to be on Dec. 2 at 3:00 PM and Dec. 10 at 10:00 AM). There were two issues: Was this for all exempt staff or just for librarians, and, what were the roles of the Benefits Committee and Executive Committee of the Librarians' Assembly in sponsoring and advertising this event? Emily and Malcolm were to talk to Scott Britton and Malcolm was to e-mail Polly Price for clarification.
3. Malcolm reported that the benefits resources on the Benefits Committee Web page could now be reached from hul.harvard.edu. Follow the links under Staff Resources.
Next meeting: Jan. 19, 2000 at 9:30 AM in Malcolm's office at the Divinity School. We will decide then where future meetings will be held.
