Benefits Committee Meeting

PRESENT: Spruill Harder (SH), Kevin Lau (KL), Jennifer Lyons (JL), Steven Marley (SM), Deb Morley (DM), Leena Siegelbaum (LS), Craig Thomas (CT)
ABSENT: Doug Campbell (DC), Candice Feldt (CF)

• The committee reviewed membership changes:
  • Deb Morley is stepping down from the committee. Kevin Lau is taking over Deb's position as co-chair and will continue in the position during the 2007-8 academic year. Jen Lyons' term ends in Aug. 2007. Jen asked the current membership to please e-mail her and Kevin if they are interested in the co-char position.
  • Other membership news: Steve Marley has agreed to serve another term. Doug Campbell is running for an LAEC position. If Doug goes to LAEC, the Benefits Committee will have three membership slots open. If Doug does not go to LAEC, two slots will be open.
• Approximately 25 people attended the Benefits Committee sponsored program "What Harvard's Office of Work/Life Resources can do for you." . Nancy Costikyan, Manager of Harvard's Office of WorkLife Resources, and Will Barron who is an EAP Clinician with The Wellness Corporation, were the guest speakers.
• JL reported on the last LAEC meeting. Ballots for new committee members will be going out on May 14 th . The Spring Assembly program, which will be a reception for Sid Verba, is scheduled from 3:30-5 pm on May 10 th . The annual Ice Cream Social is scheduled from 3:30-5 pm on June 13 th .
• The committee discussed possible program ideas for next year. Some of these include:
  1. TAP and Educational Assistance Fund
  2. Wills, Living Will, Health Care Proxy
  3. Athletic and Recreation Facilities, and the Wellness Program
  4. Benefits after retirement (possibly co-sponsor with HURA)
  5. What does “life time medical benefits” mean?

  Steve Marley will follow up with the Center for Workplace Development to see if they have plans to offer a workshop on “Wills.”
