Minutes of the Benefits Committee
November 13, 2003

Present: Zuzana Nagy, Oliver Cutshaw, Dana Mastroianni, Kathryn Baker, and Annette Demers.

Oliver Cutshaw and Ms. Nagy gave a report on the Librarians Assembly Executive Committee meeting that they attended on 10/21/2003.  Report focused on the activity reports of the committees.

Following this report out from the Executive Committee we discussed old and new business.

Ms. Nagy gave us a report on her contacts with the Benefits Office concerning a future presentation on TIAA/CREF investment options and working parents.

There was a discussion on just what type of meeting we should have on Working Parents.  Information presentation? Open forum? Panel discussion?   A bit of all three?  It was felt that this needed some clarification with the Executive Committee.   Also Ms. Baker stressed a "let's not re-invent the wheel approach".  After all, there are many groups studying the issues of the status of woman and working mothers on Campus.  We should focus on what we can reasonably do to contribute to either the advancement of this discussion or the dissemination of useful information. In addition, the proposal was made for creating a survey instrument to measure met and unmet needs of working parents. This would be a major undertaking and the group felt it was important but needs much more discussion and planning.

Next meeting:  Our December 11th meeting was cancelled due to conflict with the Fall Lib. Assembly meeting.  O. Cutshaw will be looking into meeting options for January 2004.
