Minutes of the Professional Development Committee meeting
November 20, 2001
Present: Peter Cohn (Minutes), Hilde DeWeerdt, Manda Mahoney, Karen Nipps, Alix Reiskind, Kazuko Sakaguchi, Anne Tanguay.
Minutes: The minutes from the October meeting were approved for posting on our Web site.
Library Tours: We continued to discuss possibilities for our tours for both spring and future years. Some possibilities discussed include the special collections at the Design Library and Wolbach Library. Peter will contact someone at Wolbach and Alix will pursue the Design Library possibilities. We all thought that May would be a good time for the tour. .
Service to Remote User Program:Our list of possible participants is really coming together. Peter has someone at MIT that can talk about their virtual reference project. We have someone from the Business School who will talk about the support they do for course pages, distance learning and executive education. Before our next meeting Hilde will contact someone at OIS to see about having someone who can discuss licensing issues. She will also check with someone at Gutman to see if they are doing anything that would be good for our program. Karen will also try to find someone who can speak about digitizing special collections and how decisions about this are made with remote users in mind. In short, it looks like we'll have more than enough speakers and may have to whittle down the list to fit the program slot. We're shooting for a program sometime in March.
Bryant Brown Bag: The brown bag is all set for January 23 from 12-1. It will be at the Kennedy School in Taubman 401.
Next meeting: Our next meeting is December 18. Alix will try to get a room at the GSD.
