Meeting Minutes

Harvard University Archives, conference room

 

Present: Tim Driscoll, Karen Storin Linitz, Nancy Quinn (minutes), Liza Vick, Erin Wise (co-chair), Melanie Wisner (co-chair)

 

I. Approval of Minutes

Minutes from November 27 were approved as distributed

 

II. Lamont Forum Room reservations 

Monday, February 26, 11 AM-1 PM for the Scholarly Communication Program

Thursday, March 22, afternoon to be held for the Records Management Program

Monday, May 14, 10 AM-2 PM for the Hilles Program (this date works for Heather)

 

 

-The iSite currently does not list programs running past January 2007

-The Spring LA on May 10th (?) will be a retirement party for Sid Verba

 

III.  Program planning

-Speaker suggestions from David Osterbur and Michael Leach include:

Hal Abelson - MIT Professor and Creative Commons consultant

Stuart Schreiber – Harvard Professor currently on leave, involved with the Committee on Scholarly Communication

-Should the first choice speaker be asked if he/she prefers a panel format?

-A panel discussion will require more planning and preparation

-The Cliff Lynch talk at the LA meeting and The Librarians Luncheon HU Press presentation are relevant to this program

-Potential speaker from HU Press?

-Liza will approach Hal Abelson about speaking after getting clearance from the Executive Committee

 

-This program also ties into Cliff Lynch’s talk

-Will there be an interest at Harvard for this type of program?

-Most Harvard libraries with space and money constraints are dealing with archive related issues

-Archivist’s Toolkit program

-Mellon funded collection management tool that is on the ULC agenda

-Electronic records issues

-Examples include the course catalog project and archiving course websites

-Can one program encompass the Toolkit, e-records, selection and systems?

                        -The R&R Committee will re-visit this program in the New Year

 

-Heather will need help in putting this together

 

IV. Potential co-sponsorship of an LAEC program related to Cliff Lynch’s talk at the Assembly

 

V. The next R&R meeting is scheduled for Monday, January 22nd in the Harvard University Archives conference room
