HOLLIS CIRCULATION LIAISONS MEETING

March 7, 2000 9:15-10:45 OIS Conference Room

Informal meeting notes (MLC)

Introductions

Old Business

  1. New circ libraries: Rubel is up, McKay/Blue Hill Libraries have delayed February implementation while they continue their barcoding project.
  2. Scheduled reports for LOST charges -- the data used for these is now created every month, on the 2nd of the month rather than on the 1st. MC will produce reports as soon as possible after the new reporting data is created. Littauer, KSG reports run in March; ready.
  3. Products text: minor text changes done.
  4. TFSCP update: Elizabeth McKeigue presented the task group's proposal to the ULC at its February meeting on the 17th. The ULC approved the recommendations and would like us to look next at how to proceed with some level of implementation. Although many of the recommendations would be difficult to implement under HOLLIS I, there are some that could be implemented now. The goal would be for the individual units to analyze their policies in light of how the proposed changes would impact them, and decide on a set of changes, if any, by August 1. Changes would roll out in early September (September 6?), or sooner if libraries prefer. Libraries would determine whether to implement all or none of the changes at this time, but we would like to discourage policy changes (for normal loans) that do not represent an evolution toward the recommendations. The group agreed that a written statement of support from the ULC is essential; such a statement would be distributed to the user community, with faculty notification a particular concern. TFSCP planning is already taking place at a number of units; we'll run through an update at the April CIRC-L meeting.

New Business

  1. Patron record problems?
  2. Other?. Here was a fairly lengthy discussion about communicating with accounts receivable, as well as a discussion about whether libraries would accept payment from an individual on behalf of a different individual (yes, as long as no privacy is compromised - such as displaying patron, "has," and billing data in view of the payer).
