Description of repository / collection image holdings:
Since the library was originally conceived as a philology collection, the Center for Hellenic Studies (CHS) currently has no physical image collection onsite. The CHS has recently committed to the ongoing process of developing an online database of study images to support the rapidly growing art and archaeology portions of collection.
What we have in VIA:
The Center's image holdings in VIA currently comprise about 400 images gathered from research and educational projects at the CHS. These images cover a wide spectrum of art and archaeology of the ancient Mediterranean.
In October 2006, the Center added a pilot batch of 100 images drawn from late 19th and early 20th century photographs of Greek and Roman archaeological sites and museum artifacts. Plans are being developed to add as many as 2000 similar images over the next two years, forming the nucleus of a database of images for use in the study and teaching of ancient Greek and Roman art and archaeology.
Reproduction:
For any use of these images in any medium, please contact the Center for Hellenic Studies Library.
