| The University Archives collects the personal and professional papers of
tenured members of the faculty, senior administrators, and other people whose
primary institutional affiliation has been with Harvard.
Materials that the University Archives collects:
- Biographical information, including curriculum vitae
- Diaries
- Oral history interviews
- Correspondence with colleagues and students
- Correspondence and other documents relating to professional or
research organizations with which a professor has been involved
- Teaching materials, including lecture notes, course syllabi,
assignments, lab manuals for courses, etc.
- One copy each of reprints, published articles, and technical
reports
- Final drafts of unpublished works, including speeches and
presentations
- A professor's own research notes and lab notebooks
- Photographs of the professor, his/her research colleagues and staff,
laboratories, equipment
- Family papers, particularly if family members have shared in research
efforts
Materials that the University Archives generally does not collect:
- Personal reference libraries
- Research data (please check with the University Archives first!)
- Drafts and galleys of published works
- Personal financial records
All materials are subject to review by University Archives staff. In
addition, the University Archives reserves the right to decline materials when
their physical composition or condition may be hazardous to the health or
safety of Archives staff or holdings (e.g. cellulose nitrate film or
mold-infested papers). |
