Citing Holdings

Published Sources

General guidelines for citing published sources (e.g. annual reports of the presidents and treasurers of Harvard College and University catalogs) can be found in standard manuals such as the MLA Handbook for Writers of Research Papers and the Chicago Manual of Style.

Unpublished Sources

Citations of unpublished holdings must include the following information where available

• Author/creator
• Collection and series title
• Title or description of the item itself /Date of item
• Folder title
• Call number(s)/Box Number
• Name of the repository (Harvard University Archives)
