Permission to Quote from Our Collections
Requests for permission to publish from our collections should be addressed to:

Permission requests may be sent by post or by E-mail to the University Archives.
Your request must include the following information:
- Photocopies/electronic attachments of the relevant section(s) of your manuscript, with quotes highlighted
- title of your book or article
- expected date of publication
- complete citations for Archives materials, including the name of the collection, title or description and date of the item, folder title, call number, and box number (if applicable)
Please note that publication requests lacking detailed publication and citation information will not be considered.
Permission to Publish Photographs and Other Images
Permission to publish images from the University Archives' holdings should be addressed to Robin McElheny, Associate University Archivist for Collections and Public Services. Please provide the following information:
- Archives call number and brief description of image
- Author, title, and publisher
Permission to publish requires written permission from the University Archives,
use of a credit line for each image, and payment of a use fee. (Harvard use of images does not require the payment of fees.)
Use fees for commercial/trade publication:
- $50-$5000, depending on type of publication (print/broadcast/electronic media/commercial products) and scope of distribution (one-time use, single language/ongoing use, world-wide distribution)
Use fees for not-for-profit publication (including university presses):
- $15-$1000, depending on type of publication and scope of distribution
