EXAMPLES:
These queries match only documents that contain both the term "harvard" and the term "yard".The and operator finds matches regardless of the order or location of the terms in the document, but you may wish to search for terms in relation to one another, or to eliminate terms from your search. The not operator will match one term and eliminate matches containing the second term:

These search operators may be combined:
EXAMPLE:
Care must be taken with such queries. Unexpected results sometimes occur. Parentheses are used to indicate the order in which operations are to be done. In the example above, a search for documents containing either the word "physics" or the word "physical" will be executed. Documents containing either the term "sports" or the term "athletics" will be eliminated. If the query were made without parentheses, it would have very different results that include, rather than eliminate, documents containing the term "athletics".
