The set of non-Latin scripts permissible in Aleph has been extended to include four non-MARC8 scripts supported by OCLC: Devanagari, Tamil, Bengali, and Thai.
When working with non-Latin scripts in Aleph, please review the new document on the Aleph Documentation Center: Records with non-Latin scripts in Aleph.
Please note that there are outstanding issues with the client display of the four new scripts. These scripts do render properly in the browser. Due to this circumstance, staff should use OCLC cataloging tools to edit/create these scripts.
Please also note that in Connexion, OCLC displays the non-Latin field before its romanized pair. In Aleph, the romanized text should be the first tag in a pair, followed by the non-Latin. If the Aleph record is incorrect, it will later be rejected by OCLC and no holdings will be set. For more information on paired ("linked") tags in Connexion, please see OCLC's documentation on International Cataloging.
If staff encounter a "black diamond" in the HOLLIS catalog, this can usually be corrected by overlaying the record with a new one from OCLC. If this does not correct the problem, please submit a ticket to the Aleph Support Center.
Please submit any comments or questions to the Aleph Support Center.
