In the upcoming weeks OIS plans to incorporate the latest ead2002 schema into the OASIS system. All finding aids will be transformed by OIS staff to conform to the new schema. Changes are minimal, but we still want to stay current. This project will affect administrative users of the system; there will be no changes to the public interface. The main effects for administrative users will be:
1. You will need to download the new schema/DTD and reconfigure your XML software. You will receive an announcement when the schema/dtd are ready.
2. The OASIS Working Group will implement and distribute new guidelines for encoding a limited number of new EAD attributes in Finding Aids.
3. A freeze on loading of Finding Aids to the production system for roughly 2 weeks.
4. A testing period in the OASIS QA site (also roughly 2 weeks), during which time liaisons should check their finding aids (in public display, as well as downloading as XML) for any unexpected irregularities. No test finding aids can be loaded during this time.
The OASIS Working Group will be in touch with you in the next couple days with more exact dates, as well as additional details, about this project. We do anticipate that the production freeze and QA testing will begin in the next week or so.
We welcome your comments and questions (please send to oasis-support@hulmail.harvard.edu).
Sincerely,
The Interim OASIS Working Group.
