Dear OASIS Liaisons and Users,

Thank You for your comments regarding your Finding Aids on the OASIS QA site. There were were no major issues with display, though we did find some issues having to do with markup unrelated to the new format.

As you know we had planned to roll out the new OASIS system using the new ead2002 schema a couple weeks after the QA period, which would put us at about now. However, during this time, we have discovered that some software (XMetal 3 and early versions of 4) are not handling the new schema correctly (other software, including XMetal 4.6 and later, Oxygen and Word Perfect are not affected). Since we do not want to interrupt workflows, we are delaying rollout so that any archives with this software can consider their software options.

What this means for administrative users of OASIS is that you may immediately start loading your finding aids in the current format into production OASIS until further notice.  When we settle on a new date for rollout of the new schema, OIS will do one final conversion of current production data to the new format. This should involve little or no freeze period.

Please let us know of any questions, comments or concerns (at oasis-support@hulmail.harvard.edu)

Sincerely,
The Interim OASIS Working Group.
