DMCC is pleased to announce two changes to committees starting this fall.
Technical Services Standing Committee
The Aleph Standing Committee was charged in 2002 to oversee policies and priorities for the new Aleph system. As you all know, systems designed to manage and process library collections including activities related to acquiring, licensing, cataloging, and processing collections and content continue to evolve. With the recent introduction of Verde for managing e-resources subscriptions and licenses, as well as the establishment of the Circulation, Privileges, and ILL Standing Committee, it seemed appropriate to re-examine the role the Aleph Standing Committee. With a revised focus on technical services policies, best practices, and priorities for new developments, the Aleph Standing Committee will be reconstituted as the Technical Services Standing Committee (TSSC) – a cross-library committee charged with monitoring developments and systems in all areas of technical services operations. The TSSC will continue its role as advisory to OIS, and to report to the Discovery and Metadata Coordination Committee.

Technical Services Training Working Group
To address the need for coordinated, cost efficient technical services training across the Harvard University Libraries the Discovery and Metadata Coordination Committee has established a new working group, the Technical Services Training Working Group (TSTWG). Karen Carson Young, Gutman Library, will serve as chair. Other members are Isabel Quintana, Tozzer Library, Beth Raymond, OIS, Bruce Trumble, Harvard College Library, and Nancy Zaphiris, Law Library. The TSTWG will support and coordinate training programs in all areas of technical services functions within the Harvard libraries, and will report to the Technical Services Standing Committee. We are pleased to introduce this new working group and look forward to the development of training opportunities for technical services staff at the Harvard University Libraries. The group is planning to conduct a "needs assessment" very soon to help them identify the most important training needs.
Note: The TSTWG is looking at training needs outside the scope of Aleph training classes offered by OIS. There is no plan to change the Aleph training schedule or offerings at this time.)
For more information about the TSTWG, please visit the Technical Services Training Working Group website.
