Aleph Update: HOLLIS/Aleph Unavailable/Service Pack Installation

Hello,

This message will be of interest to all staff using HOLLIS/Aleph.

Next Tuesday, February 20, OIS will be installing a service pack that will update Aleph Version 18.01.

This message contains the following information:

1. HOLLIS/Aleph will be brought down temporarily to install the service pack.

2. Problems that will be fixed by the Service Pack.

3. How to accept the new files that will be loaded onto Aleph via the Service Pack.

1. HOLLIS/Aleph outage

OIS will install the service pack during Tuesday morning's maintenance window. HOLLIS/Aleph will be unavailable Tuesday, February 20, from 6:30 am - 7:00 am. HULINFO will be notified when the public catalog and the Aleph client are again available.

2. The Service Pack will fix the following problems in Aleph:

A. Search: The service pack restores the ability to do a CCL search by publisher number (ex. pnn=ode 1016) without the need for a truncation symbol (*).

B. Cataloging: It will now be possible to use the mouse wheel to scroll through a record in the cataloging editor.

C. Circulation: There are multiple items here:
1. If the Due Date for an item was calculated to be on a certain day at 24:00, it was moved to 00:00 of the next day. This has been corrected so that now it stays at 24:00 of the same day.

2. In the Circulation client return window, when the override date is set to a date in the future, an error popup appears indicating that "the return date cannot be later than now"; however, the invalid future date was actually used. This has been corrected.

3. The due date of "one day loan" items didn't work properly. In cases when the loan was done within the last 20 minutes of an hour, the due date was calculated incorrectly. This has been corrected.

4. When the "Print Letter to Patron" window is opened, there is no entry highlighted by default, meaning that working without a mouse is not possible because there must be a *click* on an entry to activate it. This has been corrected.

3. Accepting the new files into your Aleph client:
1. Log into Aleph via the Cataloging or Circulation Modules (NOTE: Do NOT log in via Acquisitions Module; you will not receive the correct files if you use this module)
2. You will get an Aleph Version Check dialog box that will say "New Aleph Files are available, click 'OK' to continue to the Update Version window. In the Update Version window, click the 'Update All' button." Click the OK button on the Dialog box.
3. A GUI Update Version Window will appear on your screen showing you the files that will be added to your Aleph Client.  Click the Update All button to download the files.

Your Aleph client will reboot and the Aleph Password Dialog box will appear on your screen.  Type in your regular username and password, and you will be able to begin work as usual.

If you do not receive the Aleph Version Check Dialog box, follow these steps to update your client:
1. Click on the ALEPH menu
2. Select Version Check from the ALEPH Menu
3. A GUI Update Version Window will appear on your screen showing you the files that will be added to your Aleph Client.  Click the Update All button to download the files.
4. Your Aleph client will reboot and the Aleph Password Dialog box will appear on your screen.  Type in your regular username and password, and you will be able to begin work as usual.

Supervisors should confirm with their staff that all users have received the updated files.

If you encounter any problems with updating your Aleph Client, please contact your IT department.

We appreciate your cooperation as we work to keep the Aleph client up to date.

Thanks,

Patty
