Aleph Update: MARC record load - Center for Research Libraries

Dear Colleagues,

At the request of Harvard College Library, the Center for Research Libraries (CRL) bibliographic database is being reloaded to HOLLIS (it was available in HULPR). CRL's collection will add 1.1 million holdings and 800,000 new bibliographic records. Once all CRL records are loaded, the currency of the collection will be maintained by loading updated and new records every three months. OIS will begin loading CRL records this month and expects the project to continue into the summer.

CRL holdings will display in the OPAC with the note '[To obtain materials from CRL, please contact your local interlibrary loan unit]' so that users know how to go about requesting their materials.

CRL loads will be scheduled during weekends to minimize the impact on cataloging activity. However, these large files contain many new titles so indexing updated headings may occasionally take longer than usual.

CRL records that add to HOLLIS as new titles will be sent to MARS for authority processing.

About CRL (from www.crl.edu)
CRL holds over four million newspapers, journals, dissertations, archives, government publications and other traditional and digital resources for research and teaching. Holdings include such diverse materials as 800,000 doctoral dissertations, some of the earliest African-American newspapers and the 100,000-plus-page archive of Cambodia's Khmer Rouge security force. Emphasis is on materials produced outside the United States, and the Center has special strength in publications and archives from many developing nations. These holdings are available for use by students, scholars and other researchers affiliated with CRL member institutions.
