How to Participate

Any Harvard repository can contribute finding aids to OASIS. Applications for OASIS participation are reviewed by the Manuscripts and Archives Access group (MAAG). To prepare for OASIS participation a repository must:

  1. Apply to the Manuscripts and Archives Access Group (contact Robin McElheny).
  2. Acquire, install and configure the appropriate authoring software.
  3. Review the Harvard mark-up guidelines for using the EAD (including the minimal-level EAD guidelines for required elements).
  4. Attend an EAD Workshop at Harvard
  5. Mark up and submit an EAD finding aid for review by MAAG.

Following acceptance as an OASIS contributor, ongoing assistance with markup questions and problems is provided by the OASIS Users Group (for more about this group, see the Community page). In addition, the OASIS Documentation Center contains guidance for dealing with commonly encountered markup situations.

Questions about software support should be directed to your local IT support person.
