Getting Help

The HUL Office for Information Systems (OIS) is responsible for technical support of VIA and OLIVIA operations. To ask a question or report a problem with either system, use these help options:

  • To get VIA help, contact the VIA support team in OIS.
  • To get OLIVIA help,
    • For help installing the OLIVIA client, contact your local IT support group.
    • For help using OLIVIA, contact the OLIVIA support team in OIS.

OLIVIA Liaisons

OLIVIA Liaisons are representatives from Harvard repositories that use OLIVIA. Liaisons are responsible for facilitating communications between their repository, OIS, and the OLIVIA Working Group. They are also responsible for authorizing new account requests for their repository.

Discussion Lists

The OLIVIA Users e-mail distribution list is used to communicate with other OLIVIA participants and as a forum for general questions, feature requests, and cataloging discussion. To subscribe to the OLIVIA distribution list or to view the message archives, consult the HUL Staff Discussion List page [Harvard access only].

The VIAINFO list sends messages to highlight the materials from contributing Harvard repositories and gives updates on major VIA collections, including the Loeb Design Library and the Fine Arts Library. These messages remind users of the diversity of visual materials available in VIA, give advice on searching for these materials and provide contacts for more information about VIA. To subscribe to VIAINFO or to view the message archives, consult the HUL Staff Discussion List page [Harvard access only].

Committee Oversight

The VIA Working Group meets regularly to monitor VIA development and operation, including access/metadata, copyright, scanning, and interface/indexing issues.

The OLIVIA Working Group is charged with monitoring development and operation of OLIVIA, the centrally supported system used to create and maintain image cataloging contributed to VIA.
