Harvard Libraries Portal

Harvard Libraries is a web gateway to the library resources of Harvard University. This site provides information for each library in the Harvard system as well as links to research tools, online catalogs and E-Research (Harvard's implementation of the MetaLib search tool).

E-Research

E-Research is Harvard's implementation of the MetaLib federated search system, a product of Ex Libris. MetaLib provides a standardized user interface for searching and browsing eresources or ejournals and searching across sets of eresources. The Find It @ Harvard service is present in E-Research, providing links from article citations to full text and local holdings. There is also the My Research feature, which can be used to create personal lists of eresources or to save sets of search results.

Find It / Citation Linker

Find It is Harvard's implementation of the SFX linking technology developed by Ex Libris. It allows users of research databases to link directly from an article citation or abstract to full text or to local holdings in the HOLLIS Catalog. E-Research users will encounter Find It links embedded in database search results. The related Citation Linker service -- available on the Harvard Libraries site -- allows users to search by article citation to retrieve full text or local holdings.

Harvard ERM

Harvard ERM (E-Resource Management) is a web-based system that manages the acquisition, licensing, and delivery of electronic resources offered by the E-Research site. Access requires a valid Harvard ID and PIN. The ERM system has two “views” – one used by OIS staff to manage the back-end processing of resources for the E-Research and a "Librarian's View" available to library staff.

Using the ERM Librarian’s View, library staff can access:

  • Resource license information
  • Acquisitions data for shared resource purchases
  • Expiration and renewal dates for resources and licenses
  • Links to Portal and vendor statistics at the title leve
  • Information about new and pending resources
  • Access to trials and real-time comment capability

More information about using ERM is available in the ERM User Guide.

ERM Librarian's View is the source of specific information relating to an individual resource. Consult the ERM&L iSite for additional eresource management and licensing information and resources.
