Insider's Guide to Searching the New HOLLIS Catalog
Widener's Michael J. Hemment, research librarian and coordinator of electronic texts in the humanities, has created an "Insider's Guide to Searching the New HOLLIS Catalog." Found online at http://hcl.harvard.edu/research/guides/holliscatalog/ and available in an easily printed PDF version, the guide was assembled by Hemment and based on the HOLLIS guides of Carrie Macfarlane (HCL's instructional services librarian), Kathleen Donovan (reference librarian in Gutman Library), and other members of the OPAC design and review teams—as well as on the "observations of many Widener librarians."
The Guide appears in six sections—Browsing vs. Keyword Searching, Catalog Subsets, Saving and E-mailing Records, Creating a List or Subset of Records, Performing a "Limited-Criteria" Search, and Your Account—plus a grid defining the keyword search operators for the new HOLLIS catalog.
