NRS Assigns 200,000th Identifier

On April 24, the Name Resolution Service (NRS) assigned its 200,000th persistent identifier to a digital object. In FY 2002, NRS was launched in the fall of 2000 by the University Library's Office for Information Systems (OIS) as part of the Library Digital Initiative (LDI). NRS assigns persistent, location-independent identifiers to digital objects in order to facilitate permanent network access to Harvard's digital resources. NRS also provides web browsers with current locations of individual digital objects even after they have been moved from their original locations. To learn more about NRS, visit the OIS web site at
