After 14 years of service to Harvard, Ron Lane has retired from his position at the Harvard Depository. Iron Mountain, which operated the Depository until 1991, hired Lane as the HD manager in 1989. Lane became a Harvard employee in 1991 when the University Library took over the day-to-day management of HD. Under Lane's watch, HD grew from five employees and one high-density storage unit to 21 employees and 7 units. The collections stored at the Depository have increased in number from a few hundred thousand books and boxes to more than five million. During Lane's tenure, HD became an established, worldwide model for off-site library storage. |
