Widener Renovation Team Garners "Build Massachusetts" Award

The Widener Renovation project team, composed of Harvard College Library (HCL) administrators, Faculty of Arts and Sciences (FAS) planners, members of the architectural firm Einhorn Yaffe Prescott, and contractor Lee Kennedy Company, has been recognized by Associated General Contractors with a Merit Award for the stacks phase of the project as part of the "Build Massachusetts" program.

Awards were distributed on three levels, Performance, Merit, and Honor, and there were multiple recipients in each category based on the size of the construction firm and type of construction. Winning projects were selected according to how well they met the following criteria: state-of-the-art advancement, excellence in project management/project team effectiveness, innovation in construction techniques or materials, excellence in client service, contribution to the community, meeting the challenges of a difficult job, and sensitivity to the environmental surroundings.

This is the second award the Widener Renovation project team has received for the stacks phase of the project. Widener Building Committee members include: from Harvard College Library, Susan Lee, Jeffrey Horrell, Lynda Leahy, and Paul Bellenoit; from FAS, David Zewinski, Jeffrey Cushman, and Maryellen Fitzgibbon; from Einhorn Yaffe Prescott, Eric Ward and Jonathan Balas; and Robert O'Leary from Lee Kennedy Company. Phase 2 of the Widener Renovation will be complete in spring 2004.

Other Merit Award winners included the Gillette Stadium, the Tufte Performance and Production Center at Emerson College, the Kendall Square Parking Garage, and the EPA New England Region Laboratory.
