The Google Open Meeting
Nearly 200 Harvard librarians gathered for the open meeting convened on Wednesday, February 23, by University Library Director Sidney Verba. The topic was Harvard's collaboration with Google, which the University announced on December 14.
Laura De Bonis '91, MBA '99, and the head of Google Print, presented to the Harvard librariansand fielded a broad range of questionsfor nearly an hour.
Dale Flecker, associate director of the University Library for systems and planning, responded to De Bonis's presentation and put the collaboration in an organizational, as well as technical, context.
Sidney Verba spoke about the genesis of the collaboration in conversations several years ago-a point at which the technical challenges seemed nearly insurmountable.
