Baker Library Renovation Nears Completion
The Baker Library renovation and expansion project is scheduled for completion late this spring, and the Baker staff and collections will be moving back into the renovated building during the summer.
Designed by Robert A. M. Stern Architects and built by Skanska USA, the renovated and expanded Baker Library will include a restored historic lobby and third-floor reading room, a central stair hall that will bring natural light into the center of the structure, and faculty and staff offices on each floor. The library's collections will be located in the third-floor reading room and the two lower levels of the building.
General Collections
Current plans call for the general collections moves to begin on June 13, 2005. To facilitate this move, browsing of all collections at the Baker Library @ North Harvard facility, including Baker Old Class, will be suspended on Friday, June 10. General collections materials will continue to be delivered from Baker Library @ North Harvard to users at Baker Library @ Kresge and
on-campus addresses through July 1. Baker Old Class will be unavailable for use until July 25.
The last day that Baker Library @ Kresge will be open for service is
July 8. The Baker Library Business Information Services Center,
currently housed in Kresge, will be closed from July 11 to 24 to allow for the completion of the collections and staff moves. Current plans call for the services now provided at Baker Library @ Kresge to resume in the Stamps Reading Room on the third floor of the newly renovated Baker Library on Monday, July 25.
Historical Collections
Baker Library Historical Collections will also be closing during the summer in order to move. The last day the Historical Collections Reading Room at Baker Library @ North Harvard will be open is June 10. The Baker Old Class Collection
will be unavailable from June 11 through July 24. All rare book and manuscript collections will be inaccessible from June 10 until mid-August. Historical Collections should reopen in the de Gaspe Beaubien Reading Room on the first floor of Baker Library no later than August 15. Patrons planning to use Historical Collections during the summer should contact the Historical Collections Reference Desk in advance at 5-6411 or at histcollref@hbs.edu for updates on the move schedule and/or to determine the availability of material.
Baker Library will make every effort to ensure that library users
are inconvenienced as little as possible and to provide emergency reference service to members of the HBS community during the move. Please note that all dates are subject to change.
