Kummel and Hilles Library Transitions

Both Kummel and Hilles libraries are in transition, with major milestones approaching at the end of May.

Kummel Library will close on May 27, and the space it occupies in the Natural History Museum building will be reconfigured for Earth and Planetary Sciences departmental use. Kummel collections are being moved to Cabot Science Library and will be unavailable to users from May 27 through June 19. The map collection will not be accessible until June 27. After May 27, inquiries regarding the geological sciences or the Kummel collection should be directed to Cabot Science Library.

Hilles Library will also close to the public on May 27. It will reopen as the Quad Library in Fall 2005. Hilles staff are in the process of sorting collections for redistribution to Harvard Libraries and shipment to Sun Yat-sen University Library in China. All Harvard libraries are asked to please expedite courtesy discharge and courier service returns of Hilles books to facilitate the process. Hilles Library materials circulating with users are due on May 31, and some staff will remain in the building through June 30 to process returned materials and prepare them for distribution.
