Bryant Fellowships Awarded for 2005-2006

Sidney Verba has announced the recipients of this year's Bryant Fellowships. The recipients were chosen by Bryant Fellowship jury members Susan Halpert, Andrea Schulman, and Ines Zalduendo. That jury, which was appointed by the Professional Development Committee of the Librarians' Assembly, recommended the following members of Harvard's library community for Bryant awards.

"Slavic Encounters on the Parisian Stage, 1871-1905"
To compile an inventory of theatrical performances with Slavic themes censored by a Board of Examiners that was answerable to the Ministry of Public Instruction and Fine Arts during the formative years of the French Third Republic.

To continue research on the biography of 20th-century Russian dance scholar Lyubov Mendeleeva-Blok.

"The Transfermium Wars: IUPAC and the Discovery and Naming of the Transfermium Elements, 1974-2004"
For research in the archives of the International Union of Pure and Applied Chemistry in order to examine the role played by the IUPAC in the naming of new elements and the attendant controversies.

To fund a week of research at the Allegheny College Library, which holds (outside of those remaining at Harvard) by far the largest number of pre-1764 Harvard Library volumes.
