New Appointments

David Butler Operations Specialist (September)

David Butler has worked for Harvard Dining Services since 2002. He has also worked as a staff assistant at the Harvard Business School, and at Target in Watertown as an overnight team member. He studied graphic design at Curry College and has also studied at the University of Massachusetts, Boston, and Massachusetts College of Art.


Rebecca (Bexx) Caswell
Conservation Technician (August)

Bexx Caswell, working half-time at Preservation and Imaging Services, is also the information services coordinator at Babson College's Horn Library in Wellesley. She recently completed a conservation internship in the Loeb Library at the Harvard Graduate School of Design, where she performed basic book repairs. She holds a BA in nonfiction writing and journalism from The New School University in New York, and she recently completed her MSLIS in preservation management from Simmons.

Lisa Clark comes to Baker Library from the collections conservation laboratory in Widener, where she was a conservation technician. She previously worked at Smith College as a book repair technician.


Sarah Corvene

Sarah Corvene was the serials cataloger at Baker for about four years before joining the College Library as senior serials cataloger in 2000. Before that, she was the head of Technical Services at the Robbins Library in Arlington. She has an MSLIS from Simmons and a BA in English literature, with concentrations in physics, American history, and studio art, from Kenyon College. She has a reading knowledge of French and cataloging facility in Spanish, German, and Italian.


Marisa Dery

Marisa Dery is owner and chief engineer of Tamar Mastering, which enhances audio for CD releases and for film and television. She is also a part-time faculty member at the New England Institute of Art. She holds a bachelor's degree in music production and engineering from Berklee College of Music.


Haden Guest

Haden Guest is the former curator and acting director of the Warner Brothers Archive at the University of Southern California. In that role, he served as archivist and assistant manager of the company's historical documents, photographs, and artwork. He has also worked as program coordinator at the UCLA Moving Image Archive Studies Program. He has a BA in Japanese studies from Connecticut College, a certificate in photographic and motion picture preservation and archival practice from the George Eastman House, and an MA and PhD in film and television from UCLA's School of Theater, Film, Television, and Digital Media.


Heather Hamilton

As part of her graduate program in art conservation at Buffalo State College, Heather Hamilton served as a paper conservation intern at the Weissman, starting in January 2006. She treated rare paper materials, including prints, historic documents, and manuscripts, and conducted a survey of materials from the Harvard Theatre Collection. She held a similar internship at the Boston Athenaeum's conservation laboratory, and before graduate school she worked in the Widener conservation lab. She graduated from the North Bennet Street School bookbinding program and also holds a BA from the University of Massachusetts.


Cynthia Hinds

Cynthia Hinds has worked as a library services supervisor at the University of New Hampshire's Dimond Library, where she cataloged and classified monographs and analytics. She has a BA in art history from Michigan State University and a master of education from Plymouth State University in New Hampshire. She is working towards her MSLIS at Simmons.


Claudia Holguin

Claudia Holguin is a recent graduate of San Jose State University's Library and Information Science program. Before coming to Harvard, she was head of operations for Music Special Collections at UCLA. As a student, she was an intern in the University Archives at UCLA, and, earlier, an intern in special collections cataloging at the University of Southern California, as well as the law library at UCLA. In addition to her MLIS, she has a BA in history from Stanford and a JD from Georgetown. She was an associate attorney in the corporate law firm Creel Abogados in Mexico City.


David Hummel

David Hummel earned a BS in biochemistry and an MS in biochemistry and molecular biology from the University of California at Davis. He comes to the Countway from a prior assignment at Children's Hospital, Boston.


Mikyung Kang
Librarian for the Korean Collection (September)

Harvard College Library

Mikyung Kang recently served as Korean studies librarian at Stanford University's East Asian Library, where she developed the Korean language collection and provided in-depth reference and consultation services in Korean studies. She held a similar position at UCLA's Richard C. Rudolph East Asian Library, where she developed the collection and designed and conducted library instruction programs related to the Korean materials. She earned a BA from Korea's Sookmyung Women's University and an MLS from UCLA.


Bohyun Kim

Most recently, Bohyun Kim was a library assistant in Information Services at the Harvard-Yenching Library in HCL. She has also worked as a library assistant in the Robbins Library of Philosophy, FAS, and as a teaching fellow. She has a BA and an MA in philosophy from Seoul National University in South Korea, as well as an MA in classical philosophy from Harvard, and she is working towards an MSLIS at Simmons.


Lukas Klic

Lukas Klic previously served as a public services assistant in the Fine Arts Library, where he provided patron assistance, maintained the reading room, and charged and discharged books. He has also worked as a tracing assistant in Widener's Access Services, and is currently a student at Harvard's Extension School.


P. Scott Lapinski

Scott Lapinski comes to the Countway Library from Ohio's Bowling Green State University, where he served as the library IT coordinator. Previously, Lapinski was the digital services librarian at the R. H. Mulford Library at the Medical University of Ohio in Toledo. He holds degrees from the University of Massachusetts at Amherst and from Simmons.


Te-Yi Lee

For the past four years, Te-Yi Lee worked as a library assistant in the Database Management division of HCL Technical Services. Prior to joining HCL, she worked as a cataloging and preservation project assistant at the University of Chicago's Joseph Regenstein Library. She holds a BA in cinema and media studies from the University of Chicago and is currently pursuing an MSLIS at Simmons.


Carmen Mitchell

Carmen Mitchell worked as a reading room assistant at Radcliffe's Schlesinger Library before moving to the Open Collections Program. She has worked for several publishing companies, including Nicholas Brealey Publishers and Intercultural Press, Justin Charles & Co., and Da Capo Press. She has a BA in English from the University of Massachusetts and is enrolled at the Simmons GSLIS.


Wendy Mittelstadt

Wendy Mittelstadt has worked for eight years as an engineer in the audio industry, most recently as a hardware engineer at Harman Specialty Group in Bedford, where she designed and tested analog and digital circuitry and performed critical listening tests. She holds a BS in electrical engineering from SUNY Stony Brook.


Lauren Moffa

Lauren Moffa has worked in HUL since 2003, first in OIS as digital acquisitions librarian, and most recently in the Weissman Preservation Center as preservation projects librarian/cataloger. She has also worked as a copy cataloger in the MIT Libraries and as assistant cataloger at the Godine Library of the Massachusetts College of Art. She has a BA in music history and theory from Oberlin College, and an MSLIS from Simmons.


Jason (Jay) Moschella

Jay Moschella previously worked in Preservation and Imaging Services as a conservation technician, where he prepared materials for microfilming and digital scanning and performed minor and intermediate collections maintenance treatments. He holds a BA in history from Boston College.


Michael Mullinax

Until recently, Michael Mullinax worked in a similar capacity at the Harvard Business School's Baker Library, where he performed a variety of duties in Circulation. He supervised a team of temporary workers, collected fines and fees, and managed the circulation desk. He is currently working towards a BS in history from Northeastern University.


Linda Oliver

Since 1998, Linda Oliver has worked as a conservation technician in HCL's Preservation and Imaging Services, where she evaluated and treated damaged and deteriorated materials. She is an artist as well as an accomplished conservator with experience in numerous other libraries and collections. She has a BA in biology from the State University of New York.


Denise O'Malley

Denise O'Malley has recently worked as circulation supervisor at MIT's Barker Engineering Library, where she performed a variety of access services duties. She has a BFA in filmmaking from the Massachusetts College of Art and holds an MA in French from Boston College, where she is currently working towards a PhD.


Sabrina Particelli

Sabrina Particelli last worked as a sales and marketing associate with Barefoot Books, where she maintained and created business partnerships with gift market accounts nationwide. She worked in a similar capacity with the Handmade Bow Company, Inc., in Framingham. She holds a BS in business administration from Babson College.


Laura Peimer

Laura Peimer comes to Baker from the Brooklyn Museum in New York, where she worked as Mellon project archivist and previously as archivist and manager of special collections. She is the former photo archivist for the American Jewish Historical Society in Waltham and New York City, and the former archivist in the Information and Archival Services Division of The Winthrop Group in New York City. She has an MA in history and a certificate in archival management and historical editing from New York University, and a BA in history from Brandeis University.


Joshua Porterfield

Joshua Porterfield previously worked as a temporary conservation assistant in HCL's Preservation and Imaging Services. He has also worked as a photographer and a photo lab technician. He holds a BFA in photography from Henderson State University in Arkansas.


Noelle Ryan

Since 2001, Noelle Ryan has worked for Harvard Medical School's Countway Library, first as serials librarian and most recently as head of Resource Management. She was previously head of Access Services at the University of Massachusetts's Healey Library. She has a BA in communication studies from Dublin City University and an MLIS from University College Dublin.


Halip Saifi

Halip Saifi received his BSc in computer science and mathematics from Henan University of China, his MSc in mathematics from Warwick University in the UK, and his PhD in applied mathematics from Queen's University in Kingston, Ontario. Recently, he has worked as a web application consultant. He was previously employed by BroadVision.


Clayton Scoble

Clayton Scoble has worked at the Fine Arts Library since December 2003, most recently as a scanning operator in the Digital Imaging Lab. He attended the Berklee School of Music and the University of Massachusetts.


Susan Sypko

Susan Sypko also works as a research assistant in Harvard's Russian Studies department. Prior to Harvard, she worked as an English instructor in Kazakhstan. She holds a BS in international politics from Georgetown University, and she recently completed an MA in regional studies of Russia, Eastern Europe, and Central Asia at Harvard.

Julia S. Whelan

Formerly the senior outreach librarian at the Treadwell Library at Massachusetts General Hospital, Julia Whelan has a great deal of experience in pharmacological and clinical informatics and is an expert in the literature of herbal medicines. She holds degrees from Swarthmore and Simmons and is a senior member of the Academy of Health Information Professionals (AHIP).
