Durocher Appointed Director of HCL Technical Services Print

Director of Harvard College Library Technical Services Michelle Durocher

Michelle Durocher recently accepted the position of Director of Harvard College Library Technical Services (HCLTS). She began her career at Harvard over two decades ago as a library assistant and worked through the ranks, most recently serving as associate director of HCLTS. In her new role, she will oversee a Technical Services operation that includes approximately 80 staff members and provides a wide array of technical services functions, including acquisitions, provision of access, and metadata creation for diverse collections of print and electronic resources.

“Harvard College Library will benefit from Michelle’s talented leadership and guidance as we continue to develop programs and services of excellence in technical services,” Associate Librarian for Collection Management Marilyn Wood said. “I am delighted that Michelle will be assuming this new role.”

Over the past year, Durocher played a crucial role in the planning and implementation of the recent reorganization of HCLTS, while managing the unit’s English Division, and while continuing to guide the work of the Materials Management Team and the HCL macro development coordinator. An HCL veteran, she was also instrumental in the reorganization that created HCLTS in 2000, and resulted in the creation of the technical services facility at 625 Mass. Ave.

Since joining HCL in 1985, Durocher has held positions of increasing responsibility, beginning as a library assistant in the Cataloging Services Department of Widener Library. When the HCLTS unit was created, she served as a Materials Management team leader before being named the head of the English Division and later associate director. Durocher holds an ALB in the History of American Civilization from the Harvard University Extension School and a MSLIS from Simmons.

“HCL is fortunate to have a very talented technical services staff and I’m proud to work with them on ambitious goals that we have set for our future,” Durocher said.
