Sarah Burke

Sarah Burke holds an AB in folklore and mythology from Harvard, an MA in the making and meaning in the art of the Middle Ages from the Courtauld Institute of Art, and an MSLIS from Simmons. She has worked in the Botany Libraries, Houghton Library, and the Weissman Preservation Center at Harvard, as well as the Archives and Research Forum at the Courtauld. She will divide her time between research services activities in the general collections and the rare book collection.


Andrea Cawelti

Andrea Cawelti first came to HCL in 2002, as a music project cataloger in HCL’s Eda Kuhn Loeb Music Library. In 2006 she became a project music cataloger for Houghton Library. In her new role, she will catalog the collection of ballet, opera, and dance materials given to the Harvard Theatre Collection by Professor Emeritus John Ward, both electronically in HOLLIS and in printed form. She holds both a bachelor’s degree and a master’s degree in music from Oberlin Conservatory and conducted post-graduate studies at the Juilliard School.


Christopher Erdmann

Most recently, Christopher Erdmann was the librarian for the European Southern Observatory (ESO) in Garching near Munich. Prior to his tenure at ESO, he served as the library technology specialist for the US Supreme Court, and earlier as the webmaster for the technology transfer program for the University of Washington at Seattle. He holds a BA in history from the University of California, Davis, and an MLIS from the University of Washington.


Barbie McGarrah

Barbie McGarrah previously worked as an administrative assistant for Patni Americas, Inc., where she supported four members of the executive team. Prior to that, she was an English teacher and dean of students at Cape Fear Academy in North Carolina. She earned a BA in communications from Boston College and her teaching certification for grades 6 through 9 from the University of North Carolina, Wilmington.


Dawn Walus

Project Book Conservator (March)

Dawn Walus has worked at the Weissman Preservation Center since September 2008, first as an advanced-level intern in book conservation, and since June 2009 as the project book conservator for the Reading project in the Harvard University Library’s Open Collections Program. In this role she will be responsible for providing book conservation treatments for the Emily Dickinson Family Library that was damaged when the Harvard Theatre Collection was flooded in 2008. She earned a BA in fine arts with a concentration in painting and drawing from Rutgers University, and an MA in art conservation and Certificate of Advanced Study from the Buffalo State College Art Conservation Department.


Ryan Wheeler

Ryan Wheeler has previously worked at Schlesinger Library as a library assistant on a backlog project, and as an end processor. He earned a BA from Bard College with concentrations in literature and writing and an MSLIS from Simmons.


Zhen Zhao

Zhen Zhao has been given a new title to recognize his role in advanced server management, administration of data-driven applications, network security, and audits, as well as the testing and implementation of new systems infrastructure technologies. His knowledge of software development processes and experience in developing scripts and applications supports his role in bridging software development, systems architecture, and security within the ITS department.
