Carol Fumiye Ishimoto, former associate librarian of Harvard College for cataloging and processing, passed away at her Cambridge home on Wednesday, August 18, following a brief illness.

Carol Ishimoto's commitment to Harvard College Library is reflected in the endowment fund that she established in 1991. Today, the Carol Ishmoto Award provides an annual cash award and citation for creative professional achievement of a high order by a member of the HCL professional staff who has advanced the mission of the College Library through exceptional contributions and leadership.

"Carol's leadership in the Harvard libraries was legendary," said Tracey Robinson, head of HUL's Office for Information Systems. "I recall most clearly her strong opinions, her unfailing support for early technology efforts—and the fledgling Office for Systems Planning and Research—and the canister of flavored popcorn she sent to OSPR every Christmas in 88 Widener."
