Policies / Guidelines

Records are a vital University resource requiring prudent management. Recognizing this, the University has developed a set of policies governing the care and management of its records. University policy regarding its records has evolved over the years and is articulated in a series of Corporation votes.

As a function of the University Archives and operating under the authority of the Corporation vote of March 13, 1995, the Records Management Office seeks to ensure the prudent maintenance and efficient disposition of the records of the University consistent with sound archival standards, budgetary considerations, and legal obligations.

In fulfillment of these responsibilities, the Records Management Office

  • creates records schedules
  • identifies and seeks to acquire for the Archives University records of enduring value
  • oversees the use of the Records Center for storage of inactive University records and the destruction of obsolete records
  • provides general assistance to University offices in the management of their records
