Gary McGath
Digital Library Software Engineer
Harvard University Libraries
Office for Information Systems
I have been a software engineer at OIS since May 2004,
having been a contractor with OIS for almost a year before that.
There are some of the projects I have worked on:
-
JHOVE,
an open-source extensible framework for file format
validation.
-
Creation of an OAI/PMH
data provider for HUL's
Virtual
Collections.
-
Addressing security issues in OIS web applications.
-
Bug fixes and enhancements in TED and VIA.
-
Conversion and ingesting of data for the
Iranian
Oral History Project.
-
Exporting of a large body of image data and aggregation of
corresponding metadata for
ARTstor, to
make these images readily available to students.
-
Implementing a major update of
IDS,
the Image Delivery Service.
My name has been on two papers produced from OIS, though the
truth is I didn't have much to do with writing them:
- Stephen L. Abrams and Gary McGath,
"Format Dependencies in Repository Operation",
Digital Library Federation Fall Forum 2004.
- Robin Wendler, Michael Vandermillen, Gary McGath, and
Emerson Morgan, "Is the World Flat? Sharing Hierarchical
Image Metadata with Flat Database Partners",
Digital Library Federation Fall Forum 2006.
My email address is [My first name]@hulmail.harvard.edu.
